Wagner College Theater Has Magic To Do!
Wagner College Theatre opens the 2023/24 Season on October 5th with PIPPIN
Wagner College Theater has magic to do this season, starting with the whimsical and delightfully dark Broadway classic, PIPPIN. Directed and choreographed by WCT’s Professor and Head of Dance, Rusty Curcio, featuring the talent of WCT faculty and students, PIPPIN will take audiences on a fanciful tale of magic, mayhem, and a hero’s journey to self-discovery.
Written by Roger O. Hirson, the show first opened at the Imperial Theater in 1972, winning acclaim for Bob Fosse’s iconic direction and choreography. PIPPIN follows the story of a young prince, Pippin, who is searching for his own “corner of the sky,” as told by the charming yet deceitful Leading Player and his traveling performance troupe. Throughout his journey for meaning, Pippin faces bloody battles, lusty sexual entanglements, and savvy political maneuvers, soon discovering that true happiness is more complicated than he thought. The coming-of-age story is both a humorous allegory about growing up and a dark tale of the danger of false appearances and empty promises.
Accompanied by infectious tunes by Stephen Schwartz such as “Corner of the Sky”, “Magic to Do” and “Simple Joys,” PIPPIN’s score playfully weaves between time periods and genres, while never losing Stephen Schwartz’s signature pop-rock sound.
Along with the opening of PIPPIN, WCT is thrilled to announce that the evening performance of PIPPIN on Saturday, October 7th will feature Professional ASL Interpretation from All Hands In Motion, an agency dedicated to providing communication services to individuals who are deaf, hard of hearing and hearing. Theater general manager, Michelle Siemens says, “We are thrilled to be featuring ASL Interpretation during one of our performances of Pippin! WCT is always working to welcome the community into our theatre in new and accessible ways. Especially with such a movement driven show which showcases the beauty and impact of non-verbal communication, it seems like the perfect time to include the expertise of ASL professionals.”For more information contact the Box Office at 718-390-3259 and boxoffice@wagner.edu.
