“THE CABINET OF DR. CALIGARI” WITH ORIGINAL LIVE SCORE BY ANTHIME MILLER AT BROOKLYN ART HAUS
Brooklyn Art Haus invites you to keep Halloween going by celebrating the first anniversary of its in-house live scored silent film series RESOUNDING SILENTS (RS) with Robert Wiene’s 1920 German expressionist horror masterpiece, THE CABINET OF DR. CALIGARI, live scored with original music composed by RS founder Anthime Miller and RS veteran composer-musicians Bread (Metropolis, Alice in Wonderland) on reeds, piano and mixed percussion, and Glenna Cureton (The Passion of Joan of Arc) on violin.
The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920) tells the eerie story of a hypnotist named Dr. Caligari who uses a sleepwalking man, Cesare, to commit murders in a small German town. This German Expressionist classic is celebrated for its distorted set designs and shadowy, surreal visuals, which reflect the twisted psychology and horror lurking within the narrative.
Miller’s original score (for prepared piano, reeds, lyre, violin, cello and percussion) is expansive and unnerving and, when paired with the 360° projection in BAH’s theater, transports the audience into the chilling and mind-bending world of Dr. Caligari.
