The Billie Holiday Theater Presents Billie & Beyond, A New Music Series Featuring Lydia Caesar
The Billie Holiday Theatre – one of the nation’s preeminent arts and culture organizations – will launch its Spring, 2025 Season with the return of BILLIE & BEYOND, its new expansive music series inspired by the artistry and legacy of the institution’s iconic namesake – jazz icon Billie Holiday. Co-curated with veteran journalist, TV/Film writer and producer Bonsu Thompson, the series features the next generation of great female vocalists, instrumentalists, DJ’s across various musical genres from contemporary Jazz to Rhythm & Blues to Hip-Hop and beyond. Launched in Fall 2024, BILLIE & BEYOND continues this February with R&B singer-songwriter Lydia Caesar.
Originally hailing from Queens, NY and now based in St. Louis, vocalist supreme Lydia Caesar will return home to New York City to take The Billie’s legendary stage for a special BILLIE & BEYOND performance that will keep the Valentine’s Day love going for the weekend. Known for her powerful and melodic mix of uplifting and soulful rhythm and blues music about relationships, love and life, Caesar will perform a few fan favorites including “St. Louis” and “Through it All” as well as her latest single “The Greatest Love Story Ever Told.” Hosted by Brooklyn-based poet and singer Shanelle Gabriel, this curated experience will include light bites, cocktails, a set by DJ Ty–Michelle and will be opened by Brooklyn native – singer-songwriter, rapper and producer Jourden.
With more than 10 years and three albums under her belt, Lydia Caesar has become an undeniable force in music today. Over the course of her career, the R&B chanteuse has performed all over the world and conquered some of music’s biggest stages including the Essence Festival, as well as warmed crowds for Brandy, Monica, Boyz II Men, and the legendary Stevie Wonder. An ASCAP award-winning songwriter, Caesar has penned songs for commercials, movies, and TV shows. In fact, her music has been frequently featured on Bravo’s popular franchise Real Housewives. Additionally, she has extended her musical footprint to include social media and, in 2024 alone, she amassed over 100 million views across all of her social platforms with her hilarious #MommyMixes. Reimagining popular songs to touch on various parenting topics, the remixes have consistently gone viral and have become so popular that Caesar is working on a full parody album.
