Night of Photojournalism

June 7, 7 pm9 pm.
NOP projections – photoville

On Saturday, June 7, on opening night of the Photoville Festival at Brooklyn Bridge Park, CatchLight—a non-profit media organization that invests in visual storytelling and journalism as tools for public information and civic engagement— will present the Night of Photojournalism—an outdoor, immersive evening experience that blends powerful photojournalism with live music and storytelling. The program will feature large-scale projections of photo essays by local and international visual journalists, accompanied by a live performance from musician Gary Jules. Storytelling elements will include Traci Bartlow’s visual time capsule of 1990s Bay Area hip-hop; Unfinished Business curated by Tara Pixley and Lydia Chebbine, featuring portraits of people resisting injustice seen through the lens of women and queer photographers; and Brian Frank will present images from his work on the impact of mass incarceration in minority communities.
