New Play “Helen in her Homeland: a reflection in three rooms” by Alexandra Haddad, directed by Jessica Wastchak, to premiere at Loft Story.

New York, NY—[Tuesday, September 30]—New playwright Alexandra Haddad’s “Helen in her Homeland”, directed by Jessica Wastchak and produced by Alicia Steinmann and Frayed Knot Collective, is coming to Loft Story from October 17-26. Press night will be October 17th, 7pm.

A reflection on the power and pain of beauty, Helen in Her Homeland shares how Helen of Troy and Paris met, fled, started, and ended a war. Themes of sex, gender, identity, immigration, and violence, all explored by a woman who, throughout history, has remained voiceless. A modern poetic and mythological retelling of what the face that launched a thousand ships might have seen, and said, in Troy.

“Helen” is part of Frayed Knot Collective’s Original Development Series, along with “Gray Mud” by Brie Leftwich, which will be premiering at the Theater for the New City in November. Up-and-coming multi-media production company, Frayed Knot Collective, is dedicated to “creating accessible, boundary-pushing performance art” and “strives to uplift original stories from individuals from all walks of life.”
