This workshop, hosted by resident artist Fidelis Ayuwa Izekor with assistance from the Billie Elise Team, offers a unique opportunity for participants to explore the concept of rhythm in art. During the workshop, students will use African textiles, including fabric swatches and fabric, as inspiration for creating painted patterns on canvas. Fidelis will delve into the concept of “rhythm,” which involves the visual or auditory patterns created by repeated shapes, elements, colors, sounds, and movements. Participants will learn to establish a sense of flow and connection and emphasize areas of the composition. This project is very much feelings-based, as this is how Fidelis creates: we will spend time identifying and understanding the feelings that arise from the fabric swatches.
