To combat the devastation of Alzheimer’s Disease on the African American community The Maya Angelou Center for Health Equity at Wake Forest School of Medicine, and collaborators at Columbia University, the University of Miami, and Case Western Reserve University will host an Alzheimer’s Disease Summit on Saturday, May 4th from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Critical information about the ten warning signs of Alzheimer’s Disease, the importance of research study participation, the role of the caregiver, healthy aging, and community engagement will be the focus. Working in concert with local health agencies, expert advice and resources will be available.

Alzheimer’s Disease is the seventh leading cause of death in America and there is no cure. The number of cases is expected to triple in the next few years without an intervention. Across the nation, African Americans have the disease twice more than their White counterparts. In under-represented and marginalized communities, health issues are more prevalent. A large portion of the African American community suffers from poorer health outcomes and shorter lifespans because of social drivers, such as where they live and sleep, what they eat and do, and everyday discrimination and stress. Join us to ignite hope for healthier African American communities. Together let’s rewrite the story of Alzheimer’s Disease.
