Amanda Seales Preview of Her One-Woman Show “What Would The Ancestors Say??” Live at The Billie  

The Billie Holiday Theatre (The Billie) ― one of the nation’s preeminent arts and culture organizations ―today announced a special addition to its 2024-2025 Season as the legendary Brooklyn theater is set to welcome Artistic Intellectual Amanda Seales for a LIVE and EXCLUSIVE limited engagement preview of What Would The Ancestors Say?? – her brand new one-woman show. Presented under Seales’ Smart, Funny & Black Productions, the preview shows span across three cities – Philadelphia, Washington D.C. and New York City – and will precede the livestream broadcast premiering on Saturday, November 2^nd. There will be two performances live from The Billie’s iconic stage to be held on Saturday, October 26^th at 7pm and Sunday, October, 27^th at 3pm. Both shows will include a Meet and Greet with Seales as well as a special free gift.

Conceived by the humorously brilliant mind of Amanda Seales, What Would the Ancestors Say?? is a sharp-witted gut check about where Black America stands today through the lens of its ancestral roots. The show is intended to entertain, educate, and empower audiences to step into the light handed down to them by those who fought before them. Weaving history telling and social commentary using stand-up comedy, poetry, song, and character acting, Seales imagines a new future for Black America, keeps it real about the present and gives a voice to icons of the cultural past. Over the course of 90 minutes, she ponders burning questions from “what is Harriet Tubman thinking looking down at the current state of the USA?” to “How’d The Panthers get their berets?” to “How did Clarence Thomas get like that?” to “Are you the type that Harriet Tubman would shoot if she came back?” and more! At this critical time when disinformation has become the norm, Amanda Seales is back on stage to do what she does best: tell the truth and make it funny!
