RewearAble, a business initiative of Adults and Children with Learning and Developmental Disabilities, Inc. (ACLD), has teamed up with Jovia Financial Credit Union to host a Spring Clothing Drive on Earth Day, April 22 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the main parking lot of Jovia’s Westbury headquarters (1000 Corporate Drive, Westbury).

Earth Day represents a global movement to raise awareness and promote action on environmental issues, encouraging individuals and communities to work towards a sustainable and healthy planet. RewearAble is a clothing recycling business created by ACLD, committed to helping people with developmental disabilities pursue enviable lives through sustainable employment. RewearAble has an integrated workforce which, from scheduling pickups to sorting and baling clothing, ensures workers are building vocational skills in a work environment.

In the spirit of Earth Day, employees from both organizations will work together to collect donated items from the community that can then be recycled and repurposed.

“We are excited to partner with ACLD on community efforts like this that truly reflect the credit union spirit,” said Richard Tavarez, Community Relations Officer for Jovia Financial Credit Union. “Partnerships such as the one we have formed with ACLD demonstrate Jovia’s dedication to supporting the communities we serve.”

“RewearAble is such an important program at ACLD, offering employment opportunities to those we serve,” said Robert Ciatto, ACLD President/CEO. “And, what better day than Earth Day to host a clothing drive with Jovia, whose dedication to ACLD’s mission to provide enviable lives through sustainable employment, has been unwavering.”

Donations can include clothing of any condition or size, shoes, handbags, belts, baseball caps, coats, hats, scarves, gloves, tablecloths (cloth only), napkins (cloth only), placemats (cloth only), bedding, and towels.

Donations to RewearAble make an impact in many ways:

  • Creates Opportunities & Supports Independence – RewearAble employees develop valuable work skills, fostering confidence and self-sufficiency.
  • Reduces Waste & Gives Clothes a New Life – The average American disposes 81 pounds of clothing each year. Instead of sending items to a landfill, clothing can be repurposed.
  • Helps Families & Communities – Clean out one’s closet assists others that will benefit from receiving quality, pre-loved clothing.
