AAPI Month with BCM

Join BCM during Community Access Thursdays in May for a series of programs celebrating Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month!
May 1: Meet author Michele Wong McSween and join this interactive bilingual reading of Gordon & Li Li: Learn Animals in Mandarin. Learn how to say the names of a zoo full of animals in both English and Mandarin, get creative with fun coloring sheets, and check out Michele’s books and plushies available for purchase.
May 8: Join author Ran Wei Baker of Boba Bear Bilingual Books for a special bilingual English-Chinese storytime! Enjoy a reading of 123 NYC with Boba Bear, sing along to bilingual songs, and create a fun craft inspired by Boba Bear’s own NYC adventure.
May 15: Learn expressive hand gestures with Ajna Dance Company as you explore classical Indian dance. Try out movements that tell stories without words, play games that teach unity and kindness, and discover how you can use dance to share powerful messages.
May 22: Join author and plant-based chef Christine Wong for an East Asian-style dumpling making workshop. Participants are invited to learn how to roll the dumpling wrappers and fold them in different ways using dough. Get a taste of chef Wong’s delicious handmade veggie dumplings right after!
May 29: Watch and join performers from the New York Chinese Cultural Center as they bring the story of Mulan to life. See exciting dance and kung fu demonstrations, then get involved yourself after the show at a hands-on lesson where you’ll learn movements from the performance.
